For the Loved Ones

When you have no idea what to do or where to go, when family and friends may not understand… I can help. Many of my clients are the loved ones of someone struggling with alcohol or substance abuse. With alcoholism and drug addiction there often is a lot of guilt, shame, anger, and sheer terror. Most people don’t know where to begin, what to do, or what not to do. There are ways to help through therapy and education. I will help you learn the difference in a clear and practical way while providing answers to your questions. When one person in the family hurts, everyone hurts. It is important to be reminded this is NOT your fault. If you have found this page, you still have hope -- this is very important. Let me help you hold on to the hope you have and find the calm within the storm.

Research supports family involvement in substance abuse treatment is  shown to have higher rates of maintaining sobriety. Many of my clients come to addiction therapy because their loved ones sought my help first. While others seek addiction counseling for themselves and then decide to include their family in treatment.

Addiction Family Therapy is a collaboration of empirically based treatment modalities; it infuses the Recovery Model, Structural Family Therapy , and Cognitive Behaviorial Therapy. Addiction Family Therapy can be a very helpful tool in healing the family and its members. While it may be hard to see now, I believe there is a gift of transformation that stems from pain and the need to change. Therefore individuals in recovery and their loved ones can use their experiences with addiction as opportunities for greater emotional growth.

I am privileged to have helped facilitate this amazing transformation in many individuals and families.
